    1. Many thanks for your comment. Would you mind elaborating? I took this panel from the book “Comics, Comix & Graphic Novels” (Phaidon), which I’ve filed away now, so I’m a bit reluctant to go and check whether I made a mistake or the book did. I know Superman comics very little. What gives away this Superman as the work of Al Plastino?

  1. I posted the picture to the Curt Swan Facebook group and 25 people identified it as Al Plastino, as I said. No one thought it was Curt Swan or any other artist. One member identified the source of the panel as being from page 9 of Action Comics 296 (reprinted in Superman 227.) The Grand Comics Database also confirms that that issue was pencilled and inked by Al Plastino. You can look it up yourself if you still don’t believe me.

I would appreciate it if you would remove this blog post since it only makes one point and that point is wrong. I wish I knew if your original source was wrong but I guess it is too much work to unfile the book. I hope this doesn’t sound unkind, but it might be best to avoid blogging about subjects that you know “very little.”

  2. Hi Chris,

I never doubted what you said (“I made a mistake or the book did”). Having checked the book in question (page 57), the error comes from there indeed (Curt Swan apparently drew the COVER of AC 296). The advantage of a blog is that corrections like this are made possible.
