Revisiting: PANZER TRIPOD

A “quadropod” crashes from the sky near a mountain lake. Tanks on legs. This must be happening in the middle of an intergalactic war. An immense ship is traveling through space. Astronauts. And then “panzers”.

Réza Benhadj’s art excels at representing bucolic nature, or cold space, mist, clouds, water dripping from a helmet, steam exuding from a Panzer’s metallic suit. It is often incredibly detailed, and one notices things on second or third reading.

Many aspects of the storyline are unclear at this stage, but it doesn’t matter. There’s something in Panzer Tripod pointing towards where comics should go.

Available in volumes 8 and 11 (uncompleted).
