Revisiting: GABRIEL

Gabriel, the half-blood” exorcist, wields a special sword and helps the church fight against the Cult of the Devil Machine.

Giuseppe Rungetti and Antonio Bifulco fantasized about a near future having gone medieval. The artwork is intricate (black and white touched up digitally) and lots of attention has been given to texture. This feels like an isolated crash! bang! wallop! episode in a fictional world that should be explored further. Gabriel’s color portrait in the contents page is rich in meaning and there are hints in the story that his destiny is a complex one.

Available in volume 3.

Revisiting: RETURN OF THE HUMAN

Mankind has populated space and forgotten Earth. Alien species coexist. Then the human galactic empire gets attacked by the Tothix. Alexander Lance McCoy, a “Renaissance man”, explores Mars and discovers by chance how the war could be won.

RETURN OF THE HUMAN takes advantage of Aces Weekly’s digital presentation. The narration makes use of a variety of sources to let us see how the war unfolds. We watch from outer space and from the heart of the action as planets get destroyed. Science fiction is told as if it were history. Mark Wheatley’s art seems to lie suspended behind the fine mist of time.

Available in volumes 1 and 3.
